De retour à la maison après une série de trois matchs à l'extérieur, le Seattle Storm, cinquième au classement à deux victoires des Las Vegas Aces, retrouvait enfin son public.
A noté que lors de ce dernier road trip de trois rencontres, Gabby Williams s'est démarquée, en franchissant la barre des 1000 points en carrière lors du dernier match contre New York. Elle a d'ailleurs signé sa meilleure prestation depuis son retour à Seattle avec 17 points, 5 passes décisives et 4 rebonds. De son côté, Skylar Diggins-Smith, très en forme depuis la reprise, se classait quatrième de la ligue en passes décisives avec 216 unités avant cette rencontre, à seulement cinq passes du record de Sue Bird (221 en 2003 et 2018).
Ce samedi soir, Seattle affrontait le Phoenix Mercury, emmené par l'incontournable Diana Taurasi et sa coéquipière de Team USA, Brittney Griner. Septième au classement, Phoenix avait déjà assuré sa qualification pour les playoffs.
Le premier quart-temps voit les deux équipes se répondre coup pour coup, se quittant à égalité 17-17. Jewell Loyd inscrit 7 points, dont un impeccable 3/3 aux lancers francs pour Seattle, qui affiche 30% de réussite aux tirs contre 39,9% pour Phoenix. Sophie Cunningham mène le Mercury avec 6 points.
Le deuxième quart-temps est à l’image de Jordan Horston, qui, en sortie de banc pour Seattle, apporte une énergie débordante en inscrivant 11 points. Skylar Diggins-Smith atteint alors les 222 passes décisives, s'emparant du record de passes en une saison pour le Storm.
De son côté, Diana Taurasi maintient le Mercury à flot avec 12 points. Toutefois, Seattle domine au rebond (28 contre 17) et ne commet qu'une seule perte de balle en première mi-temps. Résultat : le Storm prend le large, menant 45-30 à la pause.
Skylar Diggins-Smith continue de distribuer avec brio, mais ne se limite pas à cela. Elle marque à trois points, puis réalise un "and one" avant d’intercepter le ballon et offrir une passe décisive à Gabby Williams, creusant davantage l’écart : 55-36 pour Seattle.
Un festival de tirs à trois points s'enchaîne ensuite, initié par Diana Taurasi. Skylar lui répond immédiatement, suivie de Natasha Cloud, Jewell Loyd, Sami Whitcomb et Gabby Williams. En moins de trois minutes, six tirs à trois points viennent enflammer le match, ravissant le public. Seattle en réussira 12 au total dans ce match. À la fin du troisième quart, Seattle mène 73-51.
Avec un peu plus de six minutes à jouer, Phoenix fait entrer ses remplaçantes, tandis que Coach Noelle Quinn donne du temps de jeu à Nika Muhl. Le public est en extase, et la jeune joueuse termine son match avec 3 passes décisives, 1 rebond et 1 interception pour sceller la victoire éclatante du Storm : 90-66.
Ce triomphe est avant tout collectif. Chaque joueuse ayant foulé le parquet a contribué à la victoire. Jordan Horston, en grande forme, termine avec 16 points, 5 rebonds et 2 passes décisives. Jewell Loyd ajoute 20 points, tandis que Nneka Ogwumike compile 10 points et 8 rebonds.
Skylar Diggins-Smith est élue joueuse du match avec un double-double (12 points, 11 passes décisives et 2 rebonds). Avec ses 222 passes décisives sur la saison, elle établit un nouveau record pour Seattle.
Du côté du Mercury, Diana Taurasi inscrit 18 points, Kahleah Copper 11 points, mais Brittney Griner, nettement moins dominante que d'habitude, ne marque que 4 points en 24 minutes, neutralisée par la défense solide du Storm.
Seattle reprendra la route mercredi pour affronter les Los Angeles Sparks de Dearica Hamby.

Seattle Shows Its Full Potential and Wins with Style Against the Phoenix Mercury
Back home after a series of three road games, marked by a win and a loss against the Connecticut Sun, followed by a loss to the New York Liberty, the Seattle Storm, currently fifth in the standings, two wins behind the Las Vegas Aces, finally reunited with their home crowd.
It's worth mentioning that during that three-game road trip, Gabby Williams stood out, surpassing the 1,000 career points mark in the last game against New York and posted her best performance since returning to Seattle with 17 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Meanwhile, Skylar Diggins-Smith, in great shape since the second half of the season started, ranked fourth in the league in assists with 216 before the game, just five shy of Sue Bird’s record (221 in 2003 and 2018).
On this Saturday night, Seattle faced the Phoenix Mercury, led by the legendary Diana Taurasi and her Team USA teammate Brittney Griner. Ranked seventh, Phoenix had already secured its playoff spot as well (Seattle is qualified too).
In the first quarter, the two teams went back and forth, finishing the period tied at 17-17. Jewell Loyd scored 7 points, including a perfect 3/3 from the free-throw line for Seattle, which shot 30% from the field compared to Phoenix’s 39.9%. Sophie Cunningham led the Mercury with 6 points.
The second quarter reflected the energy of Jordan Horston, who came off the bench for Seattle and scored 11 points in the period. That's also when Skylar Diggins-Smith reached her 222's assists, breaking the Storm's single-season assist record.
On the Arizona side, Diana Taurasi kept her team afloat with 12 points. However, Seattle dominated the rebounds (28 to 17) and committed only one turnover in the first half. As a result, the Storm built a 15-point lead at halftime, 45-30.
Skylar Diggins-Smith continued to distribute assists brilliantly but didn’t stop there. She sank a three-pointer, then completed an "and-one" play before intercepting a pass and dishing out another assist to Gabby Williams, further extending the lead to 55-36 for Seattle.
Then came a flurry of three-pointers, started by Diana Taurasi. Skylar immediately responded, followed by Natasha Cloud, Jewell Loyd, Sami Whitcomb, and Gabby Williams. In less than three minutes, six three-pointers electrified the game, thrilling the crowd. Seattle hit 12 three-pointers overall in the game. At the end of the third quarter, Seattle led 73-51.
With just over six minutes left in the game, Phoenix brought in its bench players, while Coach Noelle Quinn gave Nika Muhl some minutes. The crowd was ecstatic, and the rookie finished the game with 3 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 steal, sealing the Storm’s dominant 90-66 victory.
This win was a collective effort. Every player who stepped on the court contributed to the victory. Jordan Horston, in great form, finished with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. Jewell Loyd added 20 points, while Nneka Ogwumike tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Skylar Diggins-Smith was named Player of the Game with her double-double (12 points, 11 assists, and 2 rebounds). With 227 assists this season, she set a new record for Seattle.
For the Mercury, Diana Taurasi scored 18 points, Kahleah Copper added 11, but Brittney Griner, significantly less dominant than usual, managed only 4 points in 24 minutes, held in check by Seattle’s tough defense.
Seattle will hit the road again on Wednesday to face the Los Angeles Sparks and Dearica Hamby.
