Le cadre du Rose Bowl Stadium est tout simplement magnifique, véritable joyau architectural avec les montagnes San Gabriel en toile de fond. Les teintes bleu ciel arborées par les Bruins de l’UCLA se détachent magnifiquement sur le paysage, ajoutant à l’atmosphère unique de ce stade emblématique, chargé d’histoire, et surtout connu pour accueillir le prestigieux Rose Bowl Game.
Depuis 1982, il est le domicile des UCLA Bruins, qui évoluent dans la conférence Big Ten. Le stade a également accueilli cinq Super Bowls, ce qui en fait l’un des sites les plus mémorables du football américain. En 2021, UCLA a réduit la capacité à 69 747 places en installant une bâche arborant le logo U-C-L-A dans la zone nord, ajoutant une touche décorative à ce lieu historique (rrien que le logo de Jordan brand à coté des initiales de UCLA mérite une photo).
Cette saison, les Bruins connaissent des difficultés avec une seule victoire face à Hawaii (16-13), suivie de quatre défaites consécutives contre des adversaires de taille (Indiana, LSU, Oregon, et Penn State). Ces résultats, bien que décevants, s'expliquent en partie par la qualité des équipes affrontées par les hommes de Deshaun Foster. Le Rose Bowl reste néanmoins un temple du football où chaque match est un événement et ou il est fort agréable de passer son Samedi soir.
De leur côté, les Minnesota Golden Gophers ont connu des hauts et des bas avec trois victoires et autant de défaites. Après une défaite serrée contre le Michigan à Ann Arbor et une victoire récente contre USC, les Gophers arrivaient à Pasadena (situé au nord de LA) déterminés à s'imposer face aux Bruins,pour faire carton plein contre les deux équipes de la Cité des Anges.
Le coup d'envoi du match, donné à 18 h, était accompagné de la douceur du crépuscule, créant une atmosphère unique avant que les projecteurs ne s'allument.

Ethan Garbers, le quarterback des Bruins, démarre fort, complétant 9 passes sur 10 pour 92 yards et gérant bien la pression de la défense des Golden Gophers.
Les Golden Gophers continuent de peiner en attaque, malgré quelques belles actions défensives, comme le sack de Anthony Smith sur Garbers pour une perte de 7 yards. Une passe contrée par Cody Lindenberg permet à Minnesota d’intercepter, mais leur attaque reste inefficace, avec un field goal manqué.
Juste avant la pause, T.J. Harden permet aux Bruins d’entrer en zone rouge après avoir échappé à plusieurs placages. Ils ajouteront 3 points avec un field goal de Mateen Bhaghani (34 yards), portant le score à 10-0 à la mi-temps.
Les jeux de course des deux équipes ont été limités, avec seulement 26 yards pour Minnesota et 10 pour UCLA, mais les Bruins dominent à la passe avec 171 yards contre 86 pour leurs adversaires.
